Every few years, a piece of media comes along that you should drop everything you’re doing and experience.
Not because it’s a blockbuster, or the final installment of some beloved trilogy. Not because it’s appointment viewing, and everyone at the office will be talking about it on Monday.
But because it’s so singular, so unlike anything you’ve experienced before.
Every once in a while, a work comes along that questions your assumptions of what a medium might be able to achieve.
Because any given documentary can make you feel, well, anything, but only this one is capable of doing what it just did.
SPOILERS - I WARNED YOU
A few of the many reasons this movie is awesome:
1. The unreliable narrators sit on top of the foundation of an unreliable narration.
2. Some of the characters are so sociopathic that it's almost unbelievable.
3. Some of the characters get sucked into the reality distortion field, along with the audience.
4. Even though it's a documentary, everyone is a character.
5. It's an unbelievable character study, but it's real!
6. It's beautifully shot.
7. It does justice to one biggest business scandals of all time.
8. It’s most realistic depiction I’ve seen of the power of narratives and incentives that are so common in The Valley.
9. You leave not knowing what to feel, what to think, or even where to begin.
